This is a confession.
I crave the ridiculous.
I do it often.
Sometimes I do it several times a day.
Sometimes I do it for hours on end.
Sometimes I do it for weeks on end.
I have done it for as long as I can remember.
I do it by choice.
Many in my circle of family and friends have tried to dissuade me. They have failed.
Some think I need curing of my craving. I refuse to be cured.
Ahhhh, the thought of it — the ridiculous!
I long for it.
I desire it.
I require it, I need it.
I search earnestly for it. I chase after it.
And if I needed to, I would beg for it.
The ridiculous. When I find it, I hold onto it. I turn it over and over looking for it’s magical properties. Looking for how to make it work. Looking for others who crave it. In my search, I look to the past, the present and the future.
Here is just some of the ridiculous that I have found and hold onto:
Peace is possible.
Violence is not inevitable.
There are solutions for global warming.
We can live in harmony with our environment.
No more animals, plants — or people — need become extinct, whether from disease, war or villainous greed.
A white protestant woman from the west and a brown muslim man from the east can be friends.
All humans are equally valuable, and should be treated royally.
Stolen lands will be returned.
There are ways to work together to ensure that we all have more than enough water and food.
We can marry whomever we choose, and it does not matter what colour our skin is, or whether
we are gay or straight.
Women can be doctors, lawyers, engineers, carpenters, police officers (etc.)… and get paid the same as men, and not experience harassment on the job.
People with “dis” (different) abilities will be in the Olympics, and we will work along side each other as equals.
The world is round.
People can fly.
